Walnut Chest on Frame
A gorgeously patinaed walnut chest on frame circa 1750. A testament to American ingenuity and craftsmanship before our nation had officially been formed, this exceptional piece is a brother to one owned by the renowned Philadelphia Quaker and abolitionist Isaac Hopper (see images - note! this is not the exact same chest on frame that Issac Hopper owned). The condition is not perfect, however, the lack of a substantial restoration during the piece’s 275-year history adds to its charm and authenticity. On the top of the piece, all but unseen, is very old insect damage that was arrested long ago. The feet have been replaced, and the brasses are not original.
